Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome

DLS is is the progressive loss of function of the natural lens inside the eye as we are aging. In stage one of DLS, the loss of flexibility of the lens causes one to lose the ability to focus on close objects initiating the process of presbyopia. In stage two of DLS, combines the loss of focusing ability from stage one, plus glare and visual blur from the denaturing of lens proteins. Stage three is worsening of the lens proteins to cause darkening of the lens that now is called a cataract.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Presbyopia happens to all of us as we age, and this has traditionally meant glasses are necessary for clear reading vision. Now, instead of struggling with suboptimal vision for 10 to 20 years before undergoing cataract surgery, we can help patients optimize their vision and reduce their dependence on spectacles, while avoiding cataract surgery in the future.

Refractive lens exchange provides an alternative to reading glasses by using an advanced multifocal intraocular lens.

You want to avoid wearing reading glasses because of presbyopia
