Meet Dr. Goyal

Dr. Goyal’s dictum is ‘I (eye) care with care’. She truly believes in compassionate and personalized patient care and values patient-centered communication and physician-patient relationship. For her, every patient is a unique individual with unique problems & circumstances, and she treats every patient as such. Her motivation for providing best care to her patients stems from a desire to enhance the quality of patient care and improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Dr. Goyal completed her residency in Ophthalmology (commonly referred to as Eye Surgery) at the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. She further went on to specialize in Cornea-External Diseases and Refractive Surgery, the science and art of surgical vision correction, at the renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts. While there she saw patients at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Shriners’ Children Hospital; all teaching hospitals for the Harvard Medical School. In addition, she completed a two-year fellowship in Corneal Immunology at Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, in Boston. She is now bringing her vast experience and expertise to Lake Nona and surrounding areas in Central Florida.

Clinical Interests

Her clinical interests include comprehensive ophthalmology, refractive surgery, refractive errors-myopia and hyperopia, blepharitis, red eye, cornea and external diseases, cataract surgery, keratoconus, limbal epithelial stem cell deficiency, endothelial dysfunction, Fuchs dystrophy, corneal infections, corneal dystrophies, Stevens-Johnson, dry eye, corneal ulcers, severe viral disease, corneal transplant rejections, corneal transplant failure. She performs cataract surgeries, corneal transplants, anterior segment surgery, LASIK/PRK as well as cutting-edge surgeries, including ocular surface reconstruction, lamellar and selective endothelial transplantation, and keratoprostheses (artificial cornea). She was the first provider in the state of Arkansas to performartificial cornea (Keratoprosthesis surgery). In addition she does minimally invasive corneal transplantations surgery called DSAEK/DMEK for corneal edema and Fuchs dystrophy. She also has keen interest in treating severe dry eye and corneal pain patients and performs procedures like Meibomian Gland Probing.

Research Interests

Dr. Goyal’s primary research interests include elucidating mechanisms and develop management of corneal pain, use live imaging to explicate molecular and cellular mechanisms in corneal immunology, neuro-immunology, and inflammation, dry eye disease and ocular surface reconstruction with stem cells. She has authored more than 50 publications and presented at various national and international ophthalmology conferences regularly. She is keen in taking these from bench to bedside to help her patients.
